The more the merrier

We've been mildly obsessed with this idea of 'the more the merrier' for a few weeks now. It started on Mother's Day which brought back fond memories of growing up in our house with lots of guests coming and going. It was just the way life ran. And it made us want to have room for anyone who would drop in. We might be a little less social today but the goal remains the same: to create functional, inviting spaces where life can happen.

Laid-back luxury is the name of the game.

Today's inspirational images all come from the uber-talented and esteemed designer Mark Sikes. He has nailed this theme and his rooms are layered, inviting and use space in unconventional ways. Sectionals and chaises are placed in corners, benches divide seating areas to allow conversation in multiple directions and chairs are expertly placed into nooks to make room for that extra person. There's always space to add another chair. Feet are meant to go on furniture and nothing is untouchable or precious. No spot is wasted and that's just how we like it.

Look at these photos while you think about your own rooms.

Do your rooms serve more than one purpose - can you watch tv? have a dedicated spot to do some work or read? eat a snack? play a board game?

Have you used your space to maximize function?

Could a few friends show up right now and all find a seat in the family room?

The neighborhood gathering is happening at YOUR you know where you'll set dinner? Is there ample lighting (on dimmers!) to create a warm mood?

Are there spots where each guest can rest their glass?

Can you host a movie night for kids and adults where most people can see the tv?

If you answered no to any of those questions, we're ready to help. We'll come look at your space and help conceive of a better way to use it. Sometimes you need to step outside of your comfort zone to make the best use of a room and we are great at that. We will move things, add things and tweak things. And we'll bring life-proof fabrics into your world so the rooms can become simultaneously beautiful and indestructible. Let's do it!
